2. What should I do before purchasing this treatment? Schedule a cosmetic consultation by calling 804-326-4448.
3. I already had my cosmetic consultation and have been scheduled for laser treatment with the echo laser. How should I prepare? • For 2 weeks leading up to the procedure, minimize sun exposure, use daily SPF, and ensure that you do not have an active or artificial tan to reduce the risk of complications. • Avoid skincare products that contain retinol, glycols, salicylic acid, witch hazel, benzoyl peroxide, alcohol, vitamin C, etc. for 2 weeks before the procedure. • Do NOT take any steroids or anti-inflammatories (Ibuprofen, Aleve) for 24 hours before treatment. • Shave the areas to be treated pre-procedure. No waxing, plucking, etc. for 5 weeks prior.
What is the aftercare for this laser treatment? • Expect mild redness and/or swelling. This will typically resolve within a few days. We recommend sleeping elevated and applying ice packs to reduce swelling. • To prevent hyperpigmentation, avoid direct sunlight for at least 4 weeks after your treatment. Be diligent about sun protection through UPF clothing and mineral SPF. • Avoid heat, strenuous exercise, saunas, hot tubs, hot showers, and excessive sweating for 48 hours or until redness has subsided. • Avoid anti-inflammatories for 48 hours as well. • Avoid chemical peels, facials, microdermabrasion, exfoliants, and skincare products with acids or retinols for 2 weeks post-procedure. • Makeup should be avoided for 24 hours. If applicable, wait 3 days before shaving the treated area. • Avoid scratching or rubbing the treated skin. Take an antihistamine as needed for itch.
Is there anything else I should consider before moving forward with treatment? • Although rare, complications, such as scarring or infection, may occur, and concerns should be reported to your provider promptly by calling our office at 804-326-4448. • Results aren’t guaranteed, and responses to laser treatment vary from patient to patient, so there is no way to tell how many treatments will be needed or how long results will last. |
